Cleaning coffee machines with regular vinegar is normal, but distilled white vinegar works best. Although, apple cider vinegar is an excellent and low-cost option that will clean your coffee machine just as effectively as distilled vinegar! Maybe you should consider using it for cleaning of your coffee maker.

Why should you use apple cider Vinegar?

Acetic acid is the common component in all vinegars. Vinegar’s sour taste and pungent odor are due to its acidic content. Pure acetic acid is used in several household cleansers as a disinfectant and descaler.

Grease, lipids, mineral buildup, and a variety of other culinary problems can all be removed with acetic acid. That is why vinegar is so popular as a cleaning agent.

Here are some interesting facts regarding vinegar as a cleaning agent:

Vinegar is a natural disinfectant that may kill up to 90% of hazardous microorganisms on surfaces.

Because vinegar is harmless, it is a safe household cleaning. Vinegar is a more cost-effective alternative to harsher detergents or cleansers for removing frequent coffee maker build-up.

However, not everyone who has a coffee maker stores distilled white vinegar, which is the purest type of vinegar. That is where apple cider vinegar comes in. Apple cider vinegar is used in many kitchens. Because you are most likely already in possession of this vinegar, it is ready to use on your coffee maker right now!

How to clean your coffee maker with apple cider vinegar – 8 simple steps.

Cleaning with apple cider vinegar is not the same as cleaning with distilled white vinegar. There are a few steps to take to guarantee that you clean your coffee maker properly when apple cider vinegar is used.

STEP 1 – PREPARATION

To begin the process, double-check that you have everything you will need to clean the coffee maker. They include:

  • A bottle of apple cider vinegar large enough to fill half the reservoir or carafe of a coffee maker.
  • Hot, soapy water
  • A sponge
  • Dry and wet kitchen towels

Keep these items close. It is imperative to measure out the apple cider vinegar since you need at least half of the amount the coffee maker can hold to get a good, deep clean.

STEP 2 – EMPTY THE COFFEE MAKER

To give the coffee maker a thorough cleaning, it must be completely empty. Remove the water from the reservoir and, clear away any coffee grounds if your coffee maker can hold them. Your apple cider vinegar will be diluted by water, making it less effective at cleaning.

Wipe out the reservoir and other damp portions of the coffee maker if necessary.

STEP 3 – MAKE AN APPLE CIDER VINEGAR AND WATER MIXTURE.

Once you know how much your reservoir or carafe can store, add equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and clean water to form your apple cider vinegar solution. So, if your reservoir holds eight cups of water, mix four cups of apple cider vinegar with four cups water.

If you want a more thorough cleaning, mix vinegar and water in a 2:1 ratio. It is not typically necessary, and it may make cleanup more difficult in the long run, but it may be useful if part of your coffee maker is clogged with coffee oils.

STEP 4 – MAKE A HALF BREW CYCLE.

Add the cleaning solution to the coffee maker, press the brew button, and let it run for a half brew cycle. Cleaning the coffee maker is not going to help much. However, the coffee maker heating components will be able to heat the solution and distribute it throughout the coffee maker.

Turn off the coffee machine after the half-brew cycle has completed and set aside for an hour. Any calcified mineral deposits or other filthy places will be dissolved by this method.

STEP 5 – MAKE A COMPLETE FULL BREW CYCLE

After an hour, restart the coffee maker and complete a full brew cycle. Your coffee maker will move the cleaning solution through everything as the process progresses. Calcified patches will dissolve and be washed away, along with any other spots that require cleaning.

Allow the entire cycle to complete before collecting the cleaning solution in the carafe.

STEP 6 – REMOVE THE WATER AND VINEGAR MIXTURE.

Once the brew cycle is over, collect the cleaning mixture in the coffee carafe and dispose of it. Allow the mixture to settle for a few minutes in the coffee pot to eliminate any mineral deposits or unclean spots.

You may securely dump of the mixture down the kitchen sink once you have finished cleaning.

STEP 7 – RUN ABOUT 4-5 HOT WATER CYCLES

After you have completed cleaning, fill the reservoir with purified water and run several coffee cycles. The purified water will help clear out any remaining apple cider vinegar in the coffee maker, removing the vinegar’s strange odor and taste.

It takes more work to get rid of apple cider vinegar than other vinegars. You will want to replace the water reservoir four or five times and conduct a fresh water cycle. You will be able to get rid of as much vinegar as possible this way.

STEP 8 – WASH AND CLEAN EVERYTHING

You can clean the external components of the coffee maker now that the interior parts are clean. To remove coffee residues and water lines, wash the reservoir and the carafe with hot, soapy water, especially the carafe.

To get rid of the vinegar smell and avoid damaging the coffee flavor of your next brew, scrub well and get as much vinegar out as possible. If you have other things to do, soaking the reservoir and dirty coffee pot for an hour can help remove the odor without requiring as much scrubbing.

Wipe off the external surfaces with a wet kitchen towel, then follow up with a dry kitchen towel to avoid water marks.

SUMMARY

While apple cider vinegar is not as simple to use as regular vinegar, it is still an excellent way to clean a coffee maker when you are in need.

Even said, if you want to clean your coffee maker using what you already have on hand, apple cider vinegar works just as well as any other vinegar! Then you may keep making pots of delicious coffee to sip throughout the day.
